Okay I have to start with this quote from the image on deviantart: ” I worked 7 wigs to one wig that you see now.” Wow that is a lot of wigs! What did you use all seven wigs for, and was it heavy?
I used 5 150cm wigs and 2 75cm wigs. I sewed the second and part third wig into the first basis wig, with the 4th and the leftover of the third I enlonged the whole wig. I glued strand after strand together with clear silicone to achieve the typical Sailor Moon length
The 5th wig became the pigtails.
One of the shorter wigs was used for the Odangos and with the last wig I sewed the parting on top of the wig.
All in all it was very hairy and the wig weighs around 1,5kg :)
You mentioned that you worked with *LilyMilkshake and ~Naousuke to make this costume, do you prefer to collaborate or work on your own?
I actually like to work alone with people xD I just love it to have people around me while working (mostly on the phone), but nobody’s allowed to meddle with my work unless I ask for their opinion.
Nothing’s more fun than partner or group cosplays! You’re never alone when you meet problems or difficulties and wearing the cosplay is just ten times more fun than alone :)
Especially with my partners here it was really great. Whenever I felt down they cheered me up and also vice versa.
Do you have any rituals, superstitions or traditions for cosplay or conventions?
I always need a decent amount of background noises. Most of the times I play cartoons or sitcomes in the background (like Avatar the Last Airbender, Scrubs, Young Justice) or talk to people on the phone. I also tend to talk to my sewing machine, my glue gun or my scissors. I have the feeling that without a mutual understanding between me and my tools no cosplay can be done! And we all know the frustration if your sewing machine won’t do what you want it to do!
You represented Germany at the European Cosplay Gathering last year, that’s really impressive! How did you prepare for the finals? Do you have any tips for cosplayers looking to compete in masquerades or other contests?
We represented Germany in the Finals 2013, so I can talk from experience.
I made myself a very strict schedule. Every evening after work I would at least work for 2 hours on my finals cosplay and on wednesday the whole evening.
My tips would be: make a plan. And follow this plan. Make a list of things you want to do today, writing it done works magic. Take all the good vibes from your friends you can get, the support of them and you cosplay partners it what can drive you through the hardest of trials. Train your skit until you’re 100% sure you can do it on stage.
And most important of all: start early xD
